Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship - Vincec doubles up!

Mike Vincec takes two titles in Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship

GOODWOOD, ONTARIO – Mike Vincec calls Goodwood Kartways his ‘home’ track, and he had a homecoming of sorts this past weekend, as the track played host to the final round of the 2006 Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels. Vincec, who already had a win on Saturday, delivered a clean sweep in the headline Formula Senior class on Sunday. Vincec also claimed the title in F1-K Senior – even though he didn’t race the class this weekend. The other champions crowned were Ryan Klutt in Canada Junior Light, Cory Luciano in Rotax Jr and Chris Holman in World Formula Senior.

Formula Senior Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Mike Vincec Mike Vincec led every lap of the Formula Senior prefinal. Second was Kyle Marcelli and third was Curtis Fox. In the final, Vincec once again marched off to a huge lead. Marcelli got a flat tire and had to retire. Fox was second and Brad LeLiever rounded out the podium.

Canada Junior Light Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Austin Milwain Anthony Furfari came from 5th on the grid to win the Canada Junior Light prefinal over points leader Ryan Klutt and Reid Arnold. In the final, Furfari took off again, with Arnold in hot pursuit. Third came down to the wire as five karts tried to go across the line at the same time. Garrett Grist made it to the line first – for third – but he paid the price as he had contact and went into the retaining fence hard. Grist was unhurt, and happy to be third.

F1-K Senior Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Marco Di Leo Marco Di Leo made good on his Pfaff Fast Qualifier award and went flag to flag in the prefinal. Richard Hibbs was second early on before being demoted to fourth at the checkered. Second went to Adam Kretschmer with Matt France - who came from sixth on the grid - finished third. In the final, it was once again Di Leo taking the win ahead of Kretschmer and France.

Rotax Max Junior Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Joshua Korenyi Polesitter Joshua Korenyi had the lead for a few laps before being passed by Cory Luciano. Luciano went on to win with Korenyi second and Kevin Monteith third. In the final, Luciano powered to a win over Monteith and Korenyi.

World Formula Senior Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Chris Holman Chris Holman won the final prefinal of the 2006 season. Holman bested Corey Usher and Ryan Dennahower in World Formula Senior. The final looked the same except Corey Usher took the lead at the beginning before being passed by Holman for the win. Usher was second and Adriano Bilotta was third.

The Pratt & Miller Team Spirit award which is awarded to the team that exhibits the highest levels of teamwork in the areas of presentation, preparation and results, went to Team Gerrits, and their driver Eric Gerrits for winning the Rotax Sr. championship.

GM Racing awards for outstanding skills went to Mike Vincec, who took home two titles in 2006.

Evaluation Day drivers named; Twelve drivers have been named to the October 24th Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels Evaluation Day. They are; Mike Vincec, Curtis Fox, Pearce Herder, Eric Gerrits, Greg Rempel, Chris Holman, Caitlin Johnston, Richard Hibbs, Stefano Romano, Evan Hayden, Matt France and Brad LeLiever. They will all be in the running for a spot on the coveted Sunoco Team Ultra 94 for 2007.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
