Mohnton, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. is anxious to move his UPS Top Fuel dragster into the qualified field at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway as soon the rains clear the area. Friday's two qualifying session's had to be canceled due to rain showers that moved into the area on Thursday and did not let up until late Friday afternoon.
"We eagerly anticipate qualifying on Saturday," explained Vandergriff. "We have made a few changes to the car and we are looking for the car to respond so we can resume our place in the top half of the field. After a disappointing performance in Indianapolis at the US Nationals, we examined the car and found some issues. It will take a few runs to sort out., but we are confident that we are headed in the right direction. These changes should give us a consistently faster racecar."
Vandergriff's last visit to the Maple Grove quarter mile, in 2004, resulted in meeting up with Tony Schumacher in the final round. Vandergriff came up a little short, giving the win to Schumacher. Vandergriff looks ahead, "I'm hoping to accomplish one more round win than we were able to in 2004."
