SatCon Expands Product Line with Introduction of High Reliability Power Management Products

BOSTON--Sept. 14, 2006--SatCon Technology Corporation(R) , today announced that SatCon Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary and designer and manufacturer of high reliability electronic components has introduced the Power-Pak series of high reliability switching regulators. Switching regulators are a vital component for the latest military and aerospace distributed power architectures. These new regulators will service applications in Defense, Aerospace, Avionics, and Communication systems.

Jack Worthen, SatCon Electronics President, stated, "We are very excited about the introduction of next generation technology for high reliability power management. SatCon offers the smallest form factor and highest power density in the military & aerospace market".

Worthen further added, "Until now engineers depended on power-hungry linear regulators for low voltage post regulation applications. Future power systems can be smaller and much more efficient when Point of Load (POL) products are used. POL regulators represent a new market area for Military and Aerospace applications. Market studies show that the use of switching regulators will triple in the next few years, eventually overtaking and displacing much of the existing linear regulator market. The introduction of the Power-Pak series will establish SatCon as an innovative leader in high reliability power management products. We expect that this series along with several new products in development to be significant contributors to future growth".

Fully integrated, these regulators include the controller, inductor and input/output capacitors in a single package. These new switching products range in size from .04 in.3 to 0.116 in.3. They feature input voltage ranges of +4.5V to +10V, output load currents of 1A to 4.5A, adjustable outputs of +1.21V to +5.0V, and efficiencies up to 88%. They are designed for high reliability operation in the harsh environments of military & aerospace applications with an operating temperature range of -55(degree)C to +125(degree)C.
