DIVISION POINTS BATTLES
HIGHLIGHT RACING ACTION
SATURDAY AT
IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY
IRWINDALE, Calif. (September 13,
2006) – With only a handful of races left in the season, it will be crunch time
at Irwindale Speedway this Saturday (September 16) as racing competitors will be
attempting to improve their positions in the division standings. Five races are
scheduled with action taking place in the Lucas Oil Super Late Models, King Taco
Super Trucks, Justice Brothers Pure Stocks, Legend Cars and the Bandoleros.
Van Knill of Tucson, Ariz. padded his
Lucas Oil Super Late Model lead last Saturday night with a runner-up finish
behind race winner Chris Johnson of Claremont, Calif. With three races left, Knill has a 40
point lead over David Beat of Santee, Calif.
Ron Peterson of Riverside, Calif. has a
commanding 100 point lead over Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill, Calif. and with two races left, he merely
needs to take the green flag during Saturday’s race to capture the King Taco
Super Truck division crown. The points battle will be for runner-up honors as a
16 point margin separates Mintey Jr. and rookie Matt Hicks of Santee, Calif. who
occupies third place.
With two races left in the
Justice Brothers Pure Stocks season, division leader Rick Crow of Simi Valley, Calif. has a
66 point lead over Harry Michaelian of
Lawndale, Calif. Crow has built an impressive lead
thanks to his current six race consecutive win
streak.
Tom Landreth’s last victory
was on July 8 but his consistent performance throughout the season has kept him
on top of the Legend Cars division standings throughout the year. He has a 38
point lead over Lindsey King of Cherry Valley,
Calif.
Spectator gates open at 4
p.m. with the King Taco fan appreciation autograph session taking place on the
track at 5:45 p.m. The green flag waves for the first race at 7
p.m.
UPCOMING: Test and Tune, the popular activity held weekly takes
place this Thursday (September 14) under the lights from 5-10p.m. The activity
allows local drag racers the opportunity to race their street legal cars on
Irwindale Speedway’s 1/8-mile drag strip. It costs only $20.00 to race, $10.00
to watch ($5.00 for kids 12-6 yrs. and 5 yrs. and under are admitted for
free)….The Dubest Car Show and Expo returns to Irwindale Speedway on Sunday,
September 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information log on to www.dubfestmedia.com....The USAC Sprint
car race scheduled for October 7 has been cancelled. The cancellation was a
result of teams who were not in compliance with local sound restrictions during
the August 26 race requiring sufficient time and testing to make exhaust
modifications to their cars.
