WESTERN MIDGETS AT BAKERSFIELD SATURDAY
The battle for USAC's Western Midget Championship moves to the 1/3-mile dirt Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway this Saturday night and defending champion Jerome Rodela is squarely in the spotlight.
Rodela, of El Monte, Calif., leads Tyler Brown by 57 points in his bid to repeat as the champion, but has yet to win a race this season.
Brown is one of four drivers bidding for Western Midget dirt supremacy. He has won two dirt races this year, including one at Bakersfield in March. Robby Flock, the June winner at Bakersfield, also has two dirt wins, as do Garrett Hansen and Chris Rahe. Josh Wise, who will not be competing at Bakersfield, also has two Western wins in 2006.
