The USAC Sprint Cars are part of this weekend's USAC "tripleheader" at the brand-new Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. A 30-lap feature is on tap at the 7/8-mile paved oval, along with a 30-lap Midget and 100-lap Silver Crown feature, all on Sunday afternoon after Saturday preliminaries. The Hooters Pro Cup Series christens the new oval Friday night.

Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. comes to Iowa nursing a 19-point lead over defending series champion and teammate Levi Jones. Wise won Friday night's 30-lap race at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. driving Tony Stewart Racing's Mopar/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Mopar.

Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind., third in the current standings, underwent surgery Sunday for neck injuries suffered in an accident at Wheatland. Doctors completed a successful six-hour surgery and are optimistic regarding his full recovery.

Wise was the third and final leader of Friday's race, leading the final 10 laps after passing Jerry Coons Jr. Dave Darland, Wise and Coons all led before Wise's lap 21 move. Coons finished second ahead of Hunter Scheurenberg, Darland and rookie Brady Bacon, making his first series start. Bacon was Friday's fastest qualifier.

The USAC Sprint Cars have not competed in the Hawkeye State since 2004 when Bobby East was victorious at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.
