Harvick Victory Earns Race Fan New Chevy Avalanche through Goodwrench Expertise Challenge

Richmond, Va., (Sept. 11, 2006) - With his stirring victory in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway this weekend, GM Goodwrench driver Kevin Harvick not only secured a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, he also helped one lucky #29 Goodwrench Expertise Challenge participant win an all-new 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Harvick, who also won Friday night's Busch Series Emerson Radio 250, completed the Richmond sweep in dramatic fashion by stalking and then passing Kyle Busch as the two approached the white flag for the 400-lap event.

"I got under (Busch) a couple of times and spun the tires up off the corner," said Harvick. "As the run went on with about 10 to go, I said 'Man, I just really am out of things to try here. Todd (Berrier, Crew Chief) came on the radio and said 'Try to put some rear brake in the thing and get it to rotate a little sooner.' I put a couple of rounds in and started catching him."

The victory is Harvick's third of the season and eighth of his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series career. Although Harvick had clinched his spot in the Chase by Lap 119, he never let up en route to the win.

"I'd rather flip over and run 10th in the Chase than give up a chance to win a race," said Harvick. "With five to go, after I dialed in a bunch of rear brake, Kyle and I were pretty much even. Todd and I and Richard (Childress, Car Owner) and everybody, we've talked about it before, if you have a chance to win the race, you have to win the race. They are too hard to come by. Everything else is secondary to that point."

The Richmond victory was even more significant for Harvick and the GM Goodwrench team because it marked the first Expertise Challenge win of the season.

"It is pretty exciting for the Goodwrench Expertise Challenge participant that won a brand new 2007 Chevy Avalanche tonight," said Harvick following the event. "It is pretty cool that we finally won one of these races and can give away a brand new truck to one of our fans. There are 28 more to give away if I can win one more of the Expertise Challenge races. Hopefully, we can make it happen."

Five events remain in the Expertise Challenge, in which a total of 29 lucky fans will receive an all-new 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche if Harvick wins 2 of 12 selected NASCAR Nextel Cup races. With one win in the record books, Harvick only needs one more to complete the Expertise Challenge. GM Goodwrench also will establish a $200,000 scholarship fund to encourage young men and women to pursue careers as automotive technicians following the two victories.

Fans can participate in the Expertise Challenge by visiting a Chevrolet dealership or a Chevy display at select NASCAR events to obtain a ticket with an official promotion code. They also may visit goodwrench.com/expert to obtain a promotion code and complete the registration process. The next Expertise Challenge race is scheduled for Oct. 1 at Kansas Speedway.

The good news for all Expertise Challenge participants and GM customers that are not selected for the all-new 2007 Chevy Avalanche is the Victory Lane Savings promotion.

Throughout the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season, any time the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet is first past the checkers, the first 5,000 people who visit www.Goodwrench.com starting at 3 a.m. (EDT) the Monday after the win can celebrate with a $10 mail-in rebate on a customer-paid Goodwrench service(s) and/or part(s) on a GM vehicle from a participating GM Goodwrench dealership in the United States.

"It is pretty cool that this is the third time we have won this year and have given our GM Goodwrench fans another chance to win, too," said Harvick. "I hope we can continue to give GM customers a few more opportunities to benefit from our performance."

Next up for Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 GM Goodwrench/Reese's Chevrolet: The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series heads to New Hampshire International Speedway for the running of the Sylvania 400 on Sept. 17, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. Live race coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on TNT. If you can't catch the race on TV, it can be heard on your local MRN Radio affiliate and XM Satellite Radio (Channel 144) starting at the same time.
