 MERCIER AND MANZO TAKE HOME TROPHIES 
 
            Englishtown, N.J. - Final eliminations are complete at the
40th annual NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 1 Points Meet at
Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.  Top Alcohol Dragster pilot, Dan
Mercier and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, Frank Manzo found the winner's
circle and took home Wally trophies with only one more Northeast
divisional left in 2006. 
Mercier of Valley Field, Quebec, defeated Ashley Force of Azusa, Calif.,
making a final pass of  5.562 seconds at 258.91 mph.  Force came up
short with her pass of 5.613 seconds at 267.96 mph.
Manzo of Morganville, N.J., earned crucial points towards a National
Championship beating Bob Newberry of Pattersonville, N.Y.  Manzo ran
5.613 seconds at 267.96 mph, while Newberry could not put together a
final pass fast enough to catch Manzo.
Comp Eliminator racer, Lee Zane of Perry Hall, Md., outran the field in
his '32 Bantam defeating Arnie Martel Jr, of Brantford, Ontario.  Jim
Schreiner of Brick, N.J., also found the winner's circle driving a '90
Beretta and making a final pass of 10.897 seconds at 139.99 mph in Super
Street.
In other categories, local racer Russell Linke of Old Bridge, N.J., made
a pass of 11.573 seconds at 108.80 mph to defeat Mark Dickerson of
Baltimore, Md.; in Stock Eliminator.  In Super Comp Kent Hanley of
Newtown, Conn., took home the trophy with a pass of 8.914 seconds at
171.77 mph.  Super Stock driver Peter Biondo of Maspeth, N.Y., drove his
'00 Firebird 12.960 seconds at 69.77 mph to beat Howard Barsky of
Levittown, Pa., who fouled in the final.  In Super Gas, Ken Bowers of
Islip, N.Y., made a final pass of 9.929 seconds at 150.43 mph to take
the win over Dan Northrop of Doylestown, Pa.
            Northeast Division racers head next to Atco Raceway in Atco,
