NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES - NORTHEAST DIVISION

OLD BRIDGE TOWNSHIP RACEWAY PARK

Englishtown, N.J. - The first rounds of qualifying kicked off today at the 40th annual NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 1 Points Meet at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Comp Eliminator driver, Allyn Armstrong and Super Stock driver, Rich Oakes took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.

Allyn Armstrong of Kingston, N.S., outran the field with a pass of 8.908 seconds in his '72 GT. Armstrong qualified just ahead of Vinny Barone of Dix Hills, N.Y. Barone ran a pass of 7.778 seconds at 0.652 under the index in his '34 Chevrolet.

In Super Stock, Rich Oakes of Woolwich Twp, N.J., drove his '92 Camaro 10.001 seconds to qualify on top of Arnie Martel Jr. of Tewksbury, Mass. Martel ran 8.809 seconds in his '06 Cobalt to take the number two position.

Cecil Frazier of Canton, Mass., qualified first in Stock Eliminator. Frazier edged out Richard Adkins of Willingboro, N.J. running 11.351 seconds in his '91 Camaro. Adkins ran a pass of 10.279 seconds in his '67 Mustang.

Racing continues Saturday at Old Bridge Raceway Park. Other categories to be contested on Saturday include, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol funny Car at 3:00 p.m. and 7 p.m.
