RM Auctions and Restorations Takes Triple Crown of Concours Wins

Leading Restoration Facility is First to Earn Top Award Three Times in Last Six Years at the Prestigious Monterey Classic Car Weekend

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (August 28, 2006) - RM Auto Restorations, a division of RM Auctions and the premiere restoration facility in North America, won "Best in Show" honors on August 20th, 2006 with the beautiful 1931 Daimler Double Six 50 Sport Roadster at the most prestigious classic car event in the world, the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The Pebble Beach victory marks RM's capture of the elusive Triple Crown, an honor marking three wins in one year among the top Concours events. Earlier this year, RM pocketed the win of the 1931 duPont Model H owned by Jerry Riegel, at both the Amelia Island and Meadow Brook Concours. In addition, this year's "Best in Show" title also signifies a third time within the last six years that a vehicle restored by RM Auto Restorations has won the world-famous Monterey event.

"Restoring an automobile with the caliber and historical significance of the rare Daimler Double Six is such a privilege" says Rob Myers of RM Auctions. "We restore our cars to new condition mechanically but at the same time ensure the visual beauty of the original design is carefully maintained."

After its purchase by owner Robert M. Lee in 2005, the one-of-a-kind Corsica-bodied Daimler was delivered to RM's Canadian facility for a detailed rebuild, taking the car back to its very foundations. As a result, much of this car's original wood framework survived and every joint was carefully dismantled, cleaned and refastened. In addition, new wood pieces were fabricated in the exact manner of the originals. New sheet metal was also fabricated and installed and the Daimler's frame was cleaned and repainted.

"I entrusted RM with the heavy task of returning a diamond in the rough to its historically accurate, mechanically perfect, and visually breathtaking original state," said owner Robert M. Lee. "Needless to say, RM was not only able to accomplish our mission but also restore the vehicle to magnificent condition unmatchable by any other contender."

Since the car's engine had not been started in many years, it underwent a complete rebuild, taking advantage of modern metallurgy to create a new set of sleeves, identical to its originals. Crankshafts and connecting rods were rebuilt and all-new alloy pistons were fabricated and fitted. Finally, hundreds of hours were dedicated to careful block sanding and paint preparation. Now outfitted in a true black finish, its startling beauty and underlying engineering excellence makes this Corsica-bodied Daimler arguably the crowning achievement of a company known for royal cars.
