BAKERSFIELD NEXT FOR WESTERN MIDGETS SEPT. 16;
SWANSON, GREWOHL POST VICTORIES AT TRACY, MADERA
Jerome Rodela continues to lead the USAC Western Midget Series, now targeting Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway Sept. 16 as its next event. Rodela has a 57-point edge over Tyler Brown after a pair of races over the Labor Day weekend at Tracy and Madera, Calif.
USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. scored a surprise win in Saturday's "Best of the West Open Wheel Classic" USAC/BCRA race at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, while Bobby Grewohl of Hollister, Calif. captured Monday's "Trigueiro Classic" at Madera Speedway.
Rodela was involved in a pre-feature accident at Tracy and did not start the feature, but finished 10th at Madera.
Swanson passed Ben Petter on lap 24 and was leading after 28 laps at Tracy when the checkered flag was waved following an accident leading to a lengthy track cleanup. There were no injuries in the accident. Ryan Kaplan finished second ahead of Evan Margeson, Al Galedrige and Garrett Hansen. Galedrige and Petter led early laps before Swanson's winning move.
Grewohl led the final eight laps of Monday's 50-lapper at Madera after passing Evan Margeson on lap 43. Nick Mitchell, Galedrige and Margeson swapped the lead during the first 42 laps of the race. Kaplan finished second, as he had done at Tracy, while Margeson, Swanson and Galedrige rounded out the "top-five."
