WINDOM, IMEL TO SETTLE KENYON MIDGET TITLE FRIDAY

INDIANAPOLIS - It basically comes down to Chris Windom and Sammy Imel battling for the USAC Kenyon Midget Car Series title Friday at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Windom leads Imel by 16 points heading into the season finale. Third-place and 2004 series champion Dakoda Armstrong is 58 points behind Windom. The most points a driver can earn is 68, forcing a two-man shootout if Windom and Imel start the feature.

Windom has led the point standings from the start of the season, but hasn't been able to shake Imel despite a strong start to the season. Windom won four of the first five races - which occurred on three different tracks - before his winning streak ended.

Since, Imel has been on fire. The Anderson, Ind. native broke up Windom's streak in the second race of the season at Anderson Speedway and has won four times since, giving him five to lead all drivers.

Imel closed slightly with a fourth-place finish two weeks ago at Anderson, one spot in front of Windom, who finished fifth after being repositioned for rough driving while in the lead. Both drivers are looking for their first career USAC championships. Windom is 15 while Imel is 16, which would make either driver among the youngest USAC titlists in the organization's history.
