For Immediate Release Fellows Fastest In Opening SPEED GT Mosport Practice CANADA (Sept. 1, 2006) – Local hero Ron Fellows, of Mississauga, Ontario, gave the hometown crowd something to cheer about Friday morning, pacing the opening practice for Saturday’s SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship Round Eight race. Cadillac teammate Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton, Fla., was second quick, followed by Leighton Reese, of Minnetonka, Minn. Driving the No. 16 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/On Star Cadillac CTS-V, Fellows popped a fast lap of 1:22.099 (107.826 mph) to overtake his teammate just after pitting for new tires. “We put on new tires. We wanted to get a chance, if it’s dry tomorrow, its about the same time as qualifying, so we wanted to give it a shot and see how it is, and it’s pretty good,�?? Fellows said. Fellows has an impressive record racing the Cadillac at his home track, recording wins in both 2004 and 2005. “We’ve done a few races here, so that doesn’t hurt,�?? he said. “It may not be that big of a deal for a fast-lap, but it generally works out when you get down to the racing.�?? Pilgrim drove his No. 1 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/On Star Cadillac CTS-V to the quick time mid-way through the session. Like Fellows, he pitted for tires, and was able to lower his fast time by another 0.8-second to finish with a 1:22.238 (107.643 mph) around the 2.459-mile (3.95-kilometer) circuit. Reese, the 2005 polesitter and qualifying lap record holder, was third quickest in his No. 6 Banner Engineering Chevrolet Corvette C6 with a fastest time of 1:23.166 (106.442 mph). A winner two weeks ago at Road America, Tommy Archer, of Duluth, Minn., was fourth fastest in his No. 5 c3controls/Dodge Motorsport Dodge Viper with a lap of 1:23.350 (106.207 mph), followed by Lou Gigliotti, of Dallas, Texas, who turned a 1:23.369 (106.183 mph) in his No. 28 LG Pro Long Tube Headers Corvette. The second, and final, practice session for SPEED GT is scheduled for Friday evening at 5:55 p.m. (EDT), with qualifying set for 11:25 a.m. on Saturday.
