SSP's York County Nationals Friday and Saturday Events Postponed to Sunday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (September 1, 2006) - Forecasted precipitation from Tropical Depression Ernesto forced postponement of tonight's and tomorrow night's York County Nationals Day 2 & Day 3 at Susquehanna Speedway Park until Sunday night, September 3.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain is predicted to hit the York-area by mid-afternoon and continue through Saturday. The storm, which hit south Florida on Tuesday afternoon, dropped three to five inches of rain and localized flooding and is expected to take a direct path over central Pennsylvania.
"In the best interest, we felt it best interest for our fans and drivers to postpone tonight and tomorrow night's activities rather than have them travel to Susquehanna Speedway Park with the expected severe weather," said Todd and Rhonda Fisher.
Some of the postponed racing events will be made up on Sunday night, September 3. The Trail Motors Super Sportsman 50 lap Championship, Late Models 40-lap Championship, Street Stocks and Four Cylinder Stock Cars return in action along with a York Haven Auto Sales Women on Wheels Mini Van Race on Sunday night.
The Trail Motors Super Sportsman event has been reduced from 75 laps to 50 laps as a request of the car owners and drivers to save money during these tough economic times. The total purse for the 24 starters is $9,000.00 paying $2,000.00 the winner and $150.00 to start the race. The normal handicapping system will be used to set all heat and feature event lineups. The first 40 of the 50 laps counted for the feature event will be all green and yellow flag laps. The final 10 laps will be green flag laps only. A fuel stop is not scheduled unless needed.
In an effort to accommodate those Super Sportsman teams also planning to participate at Williams Grove Speedway, the Trail Motors Championship event is scheduled earlier in the racing program at SSP. "We were able to compromise a schedule that will benefit the teams that planning to support both speedways," said Todd Fisher.
The Late Models and Street Stocks will be handicapped through the season long points handicapping process. The Late Model feature event will pay $1,000 to the winner. The Street Stock feature event will pay a special $500.00 to win. The heats for the Four Cylinders will be derived through a blind draw. The winner of the Four Cylinder Stock Cars will receive $300.00.
The winners of the Trail Motors Super Sportsman and Late Models feature events will receive a free Hoosier Racing Tire compliments of Miller's Racing Parts.
Sunday night will also be the final round of the Clean Technologies Young Guns Series for all Street Stock drivers who are 21 years of age and younger to compete in a five lap dash race. The winner of the dash will receive $100.00 with second place collecting $50.00. Both third and fourth place finishers will receive $25.00 each. The driver with the best cumulative finishes over the four race series will receive $200.00. The current point standings after two rounds are 1. Chad Smith (24); 2. Eric Walker (22); 3. Joey Hoffer (20); 4. Dave Thompson, Tim Drawbaugh and Jenn Scott (3). All Young Guns drivers will also receive trophies compliments of WRS Motorsports.
Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 3. Warmups begin at 5:20 p.m. with racing action beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Grandstand ticket prices for Friday, August 25 are Adults (18 & older) $14.00; Teens (13-17) $10.00; and Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $22.00 with a reduced rate for SSP license holders.
There will be an SSP Repeat Fan Discount of $2.00 for each person with a ticket stub from August 24, August 25 or August 31 events for September 3. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30.00 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The ARDC Midgets will be postponed to dates to be announced later in the season. The wingless Midgets are already scheduled to compete on Saturday, September 30 for the Inaugural Susquehanna Showdown and Saturday, October 28 for the 2nd Annual Candy Bowl.
The Classic Cars will be added to the Saturday, October 7 Pumpkin 200 and Saturday, November 11 for the Turkey 200.
