Vandergriff looking for first NHRA Top Fuel win

2006 NHRA POWERade DRAG RACING SERIES
Round 18 of 23
US NATIONALS
O'REILLY RACEWAY PARK
Clermont, Ind.
Race Date: Sept. 1-4, 2006

CLERMONT, Ind. (Sept. 1, 2006) - Bob Vandergriff Jr. is coming to O'Reilly Raceway Park for this weekend's 52nd annual running of the Mac Tools US Nationals looking for his first Top Fuel win. Vandergriff has recently reunited the Dupuy brothers in order to get the UPS Top Fuel dragster into the winner's circle. Crew chief Jim Dupuy has his brother Wayne helping him figure out the best way to get the 7,000 horsepower monster to hook up to ORP's famed quarter mile asphalt.

"Indy is our biggest race of the year," said Vandergriff. "It is certainly the race that I would like to bring home my first Wally from. We have done well here in past years and I hope that by putting the Dupuy's back together again can help us get the UPS dragster into the winners circle. We are running very consistently now and we think we have found a way to improve on our recent performance."

Vandergriff is coming off of a second round appearance at the rain-delayed O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park two weeks ago. Vandergriff, currently sitting in the 13th position in the NHRA POWERade points chase,  has his eyes set on moving into the top ten.
