Krohn Racing Focusing on Championship Battle At Grand American Finale Tooele, Utah…The Krohn Racing team has high expectations for the inaugural Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series 9-Hour Race at the MillerMotorsportsPark in Tooele, Utah on Saturday, September 2. The No. 76 Krohn Racing car sits third in the Daytona Prototype Team point’s championship, just seven points from the lead, in a very competitive fight-to-the-finish championship season. Additionally, Jörg Bergmeister has a commanding lead in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype Driver Championship with 437 points, 19 points ahead of the second place. Bergmeister only has to finish in 14-place to capture the 2006 DP Driver Championship. Joining Bergmeister for the final round of the 2006 season in the No. 76 Krohn Racing Ford Riley car are 17-year-old hotshoe Colin Braun and Swedish standout Nic Jönsson. The No. 75 Krohn Racing Ford Riley will be driven by team owner/driver Tracy Krohn, along with fan favorite guest drivers Boris Said and Max Papis. Jörg Bergmeister: “Only having to finish 14th or better to win the championship isn’t too bad, although it was a little better a couple of races ago. We had some bad luck the past two races with ninth-place finishes, so we hope for no worse this race. It will be a different situation with a nine-hour race, but we will take it easy the first eight hours and push the last hour. I’ve raced at this track earlier this year, so I hope that will help me against the other drivers, especially since it takes awhile to get the track down. I believe it is the longest track in North America at 4.5 miles.�?? Tracy Krohn: “The bar has been raised considerably this year in Grand American. The number of cars that are very competitive and the close lap times prove it. We didn’t feel we would have the kind of success we have had this year until maybe next year. This is a real plus for us to be here at the finale focusing on possibly winning everything.�?? Colin Braun: “Having a teammate like Jörg has helped me a lot this year with my driving. He taught me a lot and being with a big team like Krohn Racing has also helped. This race we plan to keep our regular game plan and go out and try to win the race. I want to do as good of a job as I can for the team and for Jörg for the championship.�?? Nic Jönsson: “We’ve had a bit of a disappointment in the Krohn team the last two races with a couple of penalties, so it would be great to get the overall championship this weekend. There are no stars on this team. We all work together well and have good chemistry on and off the track. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to end the season with a nine hour race when so much is at stake and mechanically anything can happen. We’ll take a safe approach to the race, stay on the lead lap and make sure the car stays together until the end so we can bring home the championship.�?? Max Papis: “I’m really proud to be back with Krohn Racing, especially at such a crucial time with the championship. “I brought my Rolex watch that I won for the 2004 Daytona Prototype championship to show Jörg as an incentive. For the race, we will go for it and really be in the game the last couple of hours so we can bring home the championship.�?? Boris Said: “It’s pretty hard to end the season with a nine hour event. I’m sure Jörg is on pins and needles. Everyone will work together to help him capture the Driver’s Championship, then work on getting the Team Championship. I’m also excited to be running the same Robert Yates Racing Ford engines that I run with my Nextel team.�?? Jeff Hazell, Team Manager: “We are very focused on the Driver’s Championship. Providing we take care of that important aspect of the race, we’ll look towards the Team Championship. Our approach is to win the race and to take care in traffic, which we always try to do and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We have the best crew in the pits and they deserve to come home with the championship.�?? Saturday’s race will feature a field of 44 entries; 26 Daytona Prototypes and 18 GT cars. Speed TV will carry live coverage of the Grand American finale race at Miller Motorsports Park in two parts, at 2:00 p.m. ET and resuming at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 2nd.
