McGill Motorsports California Bound

Stanton Barrett to fill in for Tim Sauter this weekend

When the McGill Motorsports team left California in February they were sitting 18th in NASCAR Busch Series points. Since that time, the team has endured a long season racing against many Nextel Cup drivers every weekend. Last Friday night may have been the most difficult of all for the team as they watched the rescue crew at the Bristol Motor Speedway begin to cut the roof off of the #36 to remove their injured driver following a hard crash. Fortunately Tim Sauter was able to leave the car under his own power, but spent the night in a Bristol- area hospital for tests and evaluation.

With Sauter recovering at home this weekend, owners John and Nancy McGill turn to a familiar face to pilot their Chevy Monte Carlo SS. Stanton Barrett who drove thirty races for McGill Motorsports from 2004 to 2005 will return to the seat of the 36 for the running of the Ameriquest 300. Barrett is a native of Bishop, CA and has a lot of experience at his home track having started seven previous Busch Series races at the fast two-mile facility.

“We’ve stayed in touch with Stanton since last year, we’re actually good friends,” said Nancy McGill. “It was a pretty easy decision for John and I when we needed to fill the seat for this weekend to call Stanton, and of course he was more than willing to help out.”

The McGill team will bring the same car that Jeff Green last ran at Michigan two weeks ago. Green started 30th and finished 22nd at Michigan, which is considered the sister track to California. Sauter’s 25th place finish in the Stater Bros 300 back in February was the team’s best finish at California’s fast two-mile track. The team is hoping to improve on that finish this weekend.

• This will be the eighth time Stanton has competed at California in the NBS.

Best finish – October 1997 - Kenwood 300 - Finished 14th, started 7th.

• This will be Stanton Barrett’s 128th career start in the NBS and 149th career NASCAR starts.

• This will be Stanton Barrett’s 31st start for McGill Motorsports.

Affordable primary sponsorship is available on the McGill Motorsports Chevy Monte Carlo SS for four of the remaining races on the 2006 NBS schedule. Interested parties should contact John McGill at 440-914-4206, or visit mcgillmotorsports.com to learn more.
