Ringers Gloves Racing Round-Up
Moorpark, Calif. - (August 29, 2006) After the NHRA had a hot and sweltering go around at Memphis Motorsports Park, the straight liners had this week to wring out and prepare for the 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’ Reilly Raceway Park. However, all three NASCAR elite series tangled in Tennessee over the weekend, but at the high-banked, half-mile of Bristol Motor Speedway.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – O’Reilly 200 – Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, Tenn.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series kicked off the Bristol night racing festivities for the weekend on Wednesday. Billy Ballew Motorsports switched out drivers for the O’Reilly 200 and put former driver of the No. 15 Chevrolet Kyle “Rowdy?? Busch back behind the wheel, in place of Kevin Grubb.
Busch qualified sixth for the race and finished only one spot back from his original starting position in seventh at the end of the 200 laps.
The Ringers team of Orleans Racing and driver Brendan Gaughan looked forward heading to Bristol. Despite his third place qualifying effort, Gaughan suffered a pit road speedway violation and toward the end of the race, fought an ill-handling No. 77 Sherwin Williams Dodge. Gaughan battled the truck and brought it across the finish line in 17th.
NASCAR Busch Series – Food City 250 – Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, Tenn.
Jason Leffler led the pack of Ringers supporting drivers to the finish line at Bristol Motor Speedway under the lights on Friday night. Leffler, donning his UnderX by Ringers, drove home to a fifth-place finish, right in front of Nextel Cup regular, Busch series part-timer and another UnderX supporter, Ryan Newman. Newman, the pole sitter for the race, piloted his No. 39 Alltel/Fastap Dodge to a sixth-place finish.
Todd Kluever’s DriverX by Ringers driving gloves can’t seem to keep him out of trouble. Kluever’s, a veteran of short tracks in Wisconsin and the Midwest region, streak of bad luck kept going at Bristol on Friday. He was involved in an accident on lap 69 with a nudge from behind from Kenny Wallace. Kluever’s No. 06 Ford Fusion suffered enough damage to sideline him for the night, resulting in a 39th.
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series – Sharpie 500 – Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol,
Tenn. Penske Racing South’s drivers Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch were pole-capturing fools over the weekend. Newman obtained his in the Food City 250 in the Busch Series, while Busch took the pole for the Sharpie 500 and the Nextel Cup race held on Saturday night.
Busch, who won the race in the spring and led for a total of 27 laps on Saturday night, suffered transmission problems later in the race that put his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge behind the eight-ball, demoting him to a 37th place finish.
However, his teammate Newman had a better day and better weekend than the pole sitter. Newman wheeled his No. 12 Alltel Fastap Dodge Charger to an eighth-place finish in the Cup race, his second top-10 finish of the weekend. Off Road Racing
The Ringers Gloves sponsored team of Collins Motorsports and drivers Brian Collins and Larry Ragland piloted their No. 12 Collins Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado through a 584-mile rough and dusty off-road course during the Best in the Desert “Vegas to Reno?? race. After coming off a great overall victory from the SCORE Baja 500 race, the Collins Motorsports team still had the momentum going to pick up another overall victory in the Vegas to Reno race.
