NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series

Danny Edwards was the fastest qualifier for tonight’s Coca-Cola 75 Lap Race
with brother Greg qualifying second. With an invert of three, Danny (No.
26) was pushed back to third as Greg (No. 27) held his position for the
Crossroads Fuels Late Model race.

With 22-cars on the start, the flag waived green as Greg ran on the outside
of pole-sitter Mark Wertz as Danny closed in on the two from behind. One
lap on the board and Greg slides in behind the 40 car of Wertz with Danny
just a few car lengths behind.

On lap 11, Greg started to close in on Wertz and three laps later Greg and
Wertz were nose-to-tail until they started to hit lap traffic. Wertz gained
a car length advantage as Greg found Danny closing the gap on him. The
Edwards brothers held their positions as they ran the next twenty laps.
Then on lap 44, the 29 of Casey Wyatt came tapping at the bumper of the
26-car in turn 2.

By lap 57, Greg was keeping his momentum as Danny was contending with Wyatt.
Four laps later and Wyatt nosed under Danny for third. Danny stayed
side-by-side with Wyatt until they entered turn 3. Danny tried to regain
his position as they entered turn 2. Danny went to the inside and under
Wyatt but he was blocked by a lap car as they made their way onto the
back-stretch.

With only 3 laps to go, Greg nosed the 27 under Wertz’s 40-car just before
they entered turn 1. The 27 was on the inside and under the 40 with the
nose at the door as Casey Wyatt brought the edge of his 29-car nose
contacting the rear inside corner of the 27 bumper to make it three wide in
turn 1. The rear of the 27 went rocking as Greg struggled to straighten it
up and Wertz shot ahead. Just as they were coming out of turn 1, out came
the last caution of the night for the spin of the 71 of Ron Blackburn in
turn 3. The yellow flag was flying and Wyatt was still ramming the rear of
the 27 as entered turn 2.

Back under green and Greg was still trying for the win. He stayed
nose-to-tail with Wertz until they entered turn 4. Greg ducked the 27 just
under the 40 of Wertz and it was full speed ahead to the checkered flag.
Wertz took the win with Greg in second and Danny in fourth.

Top Five finishes for the Edwards Brothers brings Greg and Danny up to 1st
and 2nd (respectively) for the official track’s point standings. There are
seventeen races on the board and the last point’s race on October 7th; that
leaves only five races to go for the Track Championship.

Greg Edwards now leads in (official) Track Points with 774; Danny is just
two points behind with 772. Two more behind Danny, sits Mark Wertz with
770.
