PERRY, HARKER MAKE FIRST TRIP TO WINNER'S CIRCLE

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - NHRA North Central division racers have
completed the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Holley at
Beech Bend Raceway. Top Alcohol Dragster No. 1 qualifier Ken Perry carried
his momentum into the winner's circle and was joined there by Top Alcohol
Funny Car competitor Steve Harker. It was the first win of the season for
both drivers.

Perry made his best pass of the day, 5.428 seconds at 269.03
mph, in the opening round of eliminations, which was more than enough to
cover Artie Allen of Jacksonville, Fla. The Gormley, Ont., resident then
faced off against reigning division champion Marty Thacker of Robinson,
Ill., with a 5.431-second, 264.34 mph pass. In the final he ran 5.464
seconds at 250.60 mph to Jeff Bohr's 5.539-second, 254.57 mph effort.

Harker, fresh off a two-month racing hiatus in which he returned
to his native Australia to take car of some business matters, beat Chicago's
Brian Grisham in the first round of eliminations with a 5.958-second, 248.75
mph run. In the semis he took on Russ Mudd of Fairdale, Ky., and ran 5.873
seconds at 249.07 mph. The Gainesville, Ga., racer then faced racing
veteran Danny Townsend of Muncie, Ind., in the final. Harker ran 5.814
seconds at 250.60 mph to Townsend's 5.891-second, 244.65 mph run.

In Comp Eliminator, Bo Butner of Floyds Knobs, Ind., led the
class from start to finish, first qualifying No. 1 and then scoring his
third win of the season when he beat Chad Voges, Lafayette, Ind., in the
final. Super Stock racer John Auer, Scott City, Mo., took the win over Todd
Frantz, Louisville, Ky., while Tommy Mattingly IV knocked off racing
standout Edmond Richardson of Greenbrier, Tenn. Shane Carr, Gallatin,
Tenn., earned the Super Comp win over former NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League
competitor Kyle Rizzoli of San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Super Gas win went
to Jay Davis, Orlando, Fla., who took on Dave Klomps, Bayfield, Ont., in the
final. In Super Street, Bowling Green's own Tom Flowers got the win over
Gary Summers, Franklin, Tenn., and the Top Sportsman winner was Lee Adkins
Jr., Linden, Tenn., who beat Mark Pickens, Germantown, Tenn., in the final.

NHRA North Central Division racers head to Columbus, Ohio, for
the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. They will close out the
2006 season at National Trail Raceway, September 22-24. Racers can still
earn points at out-of-division events after Columbus.
