CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT HEARTLAND PARK

TOPEKA, Kan. - Lee Callaway and Jonathan Johnson scored big
wins this weekend at the NHRA Division V Heartland Championships
presented by Napa, Good Year, and KanEquip at Heartland Park Topeka.

Callaway recently teamed up with car owner and crew chief Tom Conway and
picked up a pair of runner-up finishes prior to this weekend and his
first win of the season. The Channelview, Texas, resident posted the
best run of the event in his final round match up with defending NHRA
West Central Division Champion Randy Meyer covering the quarter-mile in
5.436 seconds at 259.66 mph.

Johnson saved his best lap of the day for the final, running
5.755 seconds at 247.57 mph in defeating Roger Bateman who took out a
pair of former division champions in Cy Chesterman and Kirk Williams in
rounds one and two.

This was Johnson's first win of the year which should help
his position in the division point's battle. Johnson was fourth coming
into the event.

In Comp Eliminator it was Tom Schmidt coming for the No. 1
qualifying position to take the win over Clint Sallee to defend his
event title. Schmidt took out Bill Reimenapp in last year's final.

Gene Mosbek advanced to the winner's circle taking out Jerry
Hefler in Stock Eliminator by about four feet at the finish line while
Chris Chaney won in Super Stock beating David Bogner with a pass of
10.416 seconds at 124.89 mph.

Defending Division Champion A.J. Percival took the trophy in
Super Street winning over Rick Milinazzo and looks to repeat as West
Central Division Champion as he leads the points late in the season.
Arizona racer Sheldon Gecker won in Super Comp over Kyle Lawrence and
Tommy Maedgan won in Super Gas recording a perfect reaction time and
holding off Scott Robinson.

Terry Blakely ran 9.80's (seconds) all day on his way to
the win in the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley
Davidson. Blakely took out Brian Johnson in the final after beating
defending division champion Tom Gilligan in round 2.

West Central Division racers head to Tri-State Raceway for
the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, September 8-10.
