FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
!!! STANBROUGH WINS MCSC FEATURE !!!
!!! HINES WINS #5 !!!
!!! BOKNECHT WINS #4 !!!
BLOOMINGTON, IN (August 26, 2006) - Last night was a near perfect night for racing at Bloomington Speedway. The weather was pleasant; and the pits were full. There is absolutely not a better use for a summer Friday night than spending it on the hillside of Bloomington Speedway. Mike Miles had the track groomed to perfection; and the concession staff had plenty of good food available both on the hill and in the pits. LIFE IS GOOD!
MCSC SPRINT CARS -
Last night was the Midwest Sprint Car Series first visit to the red clay of Bloomington Speedway. They brought several new drivers; and most of the Bloomington Speedway regular drivers showed up to defend their turf.
John Siscoe started the first heat on the pole and drove to a convincing win Chris Windham drove to second from his seventh place starting position; and MCSC regular came from fourth to take the final transfer to the feature.
In the second heat Hunter Schuerenberg won from the second place starting position while Jonathan Vennard and Bloomington Speedway regular took the other two transfers.
In the third heat Jon Stanbrough started fourth, took the lead early, and checked out on the field. Bloomington Speedway regular Ty Deckard finished second while USAC star Dave Darland came from his seventh place starting position to take the final ticket to the feature event.
Dickie Gaines drove to a convincing win from the pole in the fourth heat. Another Bloomington Speedway regular, Danny Holtsclaw, was impressive in driving from his 8th place starting position to finish second; and Danny Brackett took the final transfer.
Brad Sweet won the final heat from the pole followed by Kevin Briscoe. Kent Christian took the final transfer after starting dead last.
The drivers who find themselves In the "C" Feature have a long way to go to try to win the feature event. Stranger things have happened but not very often. Kenny Carmichael, Sr. started on the outside of the front row and drove to a convincing win. Young Chris Babcock finished second trailed by Arin McIntosh, Kenny Biro, and Justin Marvel.
Over half of the starting field in the "B" feature won at least one feature this season. Kenny Carmichael, Jr. won from his third place starteing position. Jared Fox came home second while Alex Shanks, Kyle Cummins, and Cole Whitt took the final three tickets to the feature. Bloomington Speedway regulards Bobby Stines and Kenny Carmichael, Sr. just missed transferring to the feature. Chase Stockton used a provisional to earn the right to start on the tail of the feature.
If there is anything that the guys in the MCSC feature didn't need, it was for Jon Stanbrough to draw the number one pill to start the feature on the pole; however, that's where he srarted; and that's where he finished.. That's pretty much how the 2006 season has gone so far. The win was Stanbrough's fourth on the red clay so far.
Dickie Gaines had two feature wins at Bloomington Speedway going into last night's competition; and he was a threat to win last night. He started fourth; and he took third on the fourth lap. Two laps later he took second; but that was as close to a win as he was going to get last night.
Kevin Briscoe is always a threat to win on the red clay; and last night he drove from his tenth place starting position to finish third. Chris Windham and Danny Holtsclaw rounded out the top five.
Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks:
Jeremy Hines is having the best season of his career at Bloomington Speedway; and last night that trend continued. Not only was he strong last night, but he was lucky too. He pulled the number two pill to earn the right to start his heat race on the front row. He; drove to a convincing win in the heat race; and he pulled the number one pill on the redraw to snatch the number one starting spot in the feature. Hines then led the feature flag to flag to take his fifth feature win of the season on the red clay. Jeremy doesn't have the championship clinched yet; but he's pretty close. A decent finish on September 15 would almost certainly do the trick.
Joe Lucas is second in the points; and he really needed to beat Hines to make up some ground in the points chase. Of course, he didn't do that; but he did the best he could. He drove from his seventh place starting position to a second place finish. Greg Amick, Winston Howe, and Chris Hillman rounded out the top five.
In preliminary super stock action, Hines, Chris Hillman, and Tom Ault won the heat races.
0'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS MODIFIEDS -
In the O'Neal Wood Product modified division the redraw put Bradley Sterrett and Jeff Bland, Jr. When Rusty Nunn dropped the green flag to start the feature, Bland charged into the lead; and Jared Bailey who had started fourth quickly moved into second place. Ray Humphrey started fifth; and, on the third lap, he moved into third place. On the eighth lap Ray took second. It looked very much like it could come down to a duel between Bland and Humphrey.
On the tenth lap Matt Boknecht moved into third place and started putting pressure on Humphrey and Bland. On the 11th lap he passed Humphrey; and the following lap he passed Bland to take the lead. However, Boknecht had no time to become comfortable on the point.
Defending O'Neal Wood Products modified champion Jesse Cramer had had to make his way into the feature via the "B" feature. He won the "B"; but that still meant that he had to start 16th. In 15 laps Cramer charged from 16th to second. He then started dueling with Boknecht for the win. He kept the pressure on; but Boknecht would not be denied. Cramer had to settle for second and "hard charger" honors.
Humphrey finished third, John DeMoss came form 11th to finish fourth. Kent Robinson brought home a fifth place finish after starting 14th.
In preliminary action, Matt Boknecht, Ray Humphrey, and Jeff Bland, Jr. won the heat races while Jess Cramer won the "B" feature.
