Goodwin, Brown, Armstrong and Rodriguez Wins at SSP

 

Newberrytown, PA (August 24, 2006) - Starting spot meant little for Mike Goodwin in Thursday night's 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature race at Susquehanna Speedway Park as he came from 22nd to first in a span of 19 laps for the win.

 

In other action Bill Brown won both classic car features, Kevin Armstrong won the Xtreme Stock Car Rookie Rumble and JR Rodriguez won the Great American School Bus feature.

 

Larry Hughes Jr. passed Trevor Stark on lap six in the Xtreme Stock Car main.  Hughes led through lap 12 when he lost a right-rear wheel going down the frontstretch.  Stark returned to the front after Hughes was towed to the pit area but was passed by Goodwin on lap 19.  He proceeded to lead the final 31 circuits, beating Donnie Broderick, Bob Bender, Jason Failor and Sam Rial.  Travis Horan finished third, but failed post-race inspection and was disqualified.    The race was completed in a record time of 23:12.18.

 

Bill Brown scored consecutive wins in the Classic Car features.  In the postponed feature from June 22, Brown led the entire 15-lap race and topped Joe Snodgrass, Joe Crocker, Glenn Elliott and Allen Cullum.  Brown passed Crocker on lap 10 of the regular feature after being involved in a multi-car first lap crash.  Elliott settled for third while Jack Yingling and Cullum completed the top five.

 

Kevin Armstrong survived three caution periods in the 20-lap Xtreme Rookie Rumble feature and posted wins Randy Gladfelter, Rick Lomman, Penny Repp and Randy Blank.

 

JR Rodriguez set a track record in the 15-lap Great American School Bus Race in 8:19.37.  Rodriguez topped Ben Engle, Heidi Thomas, Van Baker and Rick Yohn.

Snelbaker and Frye Win Second of the Season at SSP on Friday Night

 

Newberrytown, PA (August 25, 2006) - On Friday night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, Smokey Snelbaker won his second Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature win of the season after a bref rain shower caused a one hour and fifteen minute delay in the program.  Coleby Frye picked up the Late Model feature win.  Todd Bowersox won his first of the year in the Street Stock division.  Chris Futrell won the Women on Wheels School Bus feature race.  

 

In the 20-lap Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature, Aaron Eichelberger jumped out to the early lead from his outside front row starting spot over Brian Boughter.  Smokey Snelbaker, starting fifth, moved into the runnerup spot on lap five and began his pursuit of the leader.  By the 8th circuit, Snelbaker moved by Eichelberger on the top side coming out of turn two.   

 

A yellow flag for a slowing Jerry Wolfe with 16 laps complete set up a final four lap shoot-out with the veterans of Smokey Snelbaker, Rich Eichelberger, John Stehman and Frankie Herr.  At the finish it was Smokey Snelbaker picking up his second Trail Motors Super Sportsman win of the season.  Rich Eichelberger followed in second with Frankie Herr finishing third.  John Stehman and Steve Wilbur rounded out the top five.  Smokey Snelbaker, Aaron Eichelberger and Steve Wilbur won their qualifying heat races and Jerry Wolfe won the consolation race.  

 

The 20-lap Late Model feature event, Charles Potts started on the pole and grabbed the lead on the initial start.  Potts surrendered the lead to tenth place starter Coleby Frye on lap eleven.  A few yellows bunched up the field in the later part of the race, but Frye was able to hold on for the win.  Chuck Yingling finished second in a wild battle with third place finisher Larry Baer.  Carl Billet and Pt Beard rounded out the top five. Charles Potts, Randy Christine Jr. and Chuck Yingling won their qualifying heat races.  Jake Jones won the consolation race.  

 

In Street Stock action, Todd Bowersox grabbed the lead from Joey Hoffer on the second lap of the 20-lap feature event.  Bowersox was challenged by both Brian Hauenstein and Sam Leonard Jr. for the event, but neither was able to overtake Bowersox for the lead.  Hauenstein settled for second followed by Leonard, Jr., Scott Thunburg and Hoffer.   Todd Bowersox, Joey Hoffer and Sam Leonard Jr. picked up wins the qualifying heat races.  There was no conolation event.          

 

Chris Futrell won the Women on Wheels School Bus race over Linda Tyson and Wendy Markel.  Chrissy Fink and Jennifer Swift rounded out the top five.
