Nissan Launches Incentive Program; May Build Another Plant in North America

Washington DC August 25, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Nissan is launching an aggressive incentive program today which allows customers to buy a car now and not make a payment until 2007, reported The Detroit News.
The offer, which ends October 2, allows customers in every state but Michigan, Maine and Pennsylvania to make their first payment 130 days after the date of purchase.
In other news, Japan's Nihon Keizai paper reported today that Nissan is considering building a factory in North America in 2008, 2009 or later -- an announcement which stems from comments made by Nissan's co-Chairman Itaru Koeda during a recent interview.
Mr. Koeda told the paper that Nissan had not decided if it would set up a plant in the United States or Mexico. The automaker currently has two plants in Mexico and two in the United States (Canton, MS and Smyrna, TN).
Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn had said last month that the automaker needs to add more plants in North America and could possibly use some of the excess production capacity that General Motors is planning to discard.
