95 Years of Indy 500 Cars, Memorabilia, and History Featured in New Permanent Exhibit - Now Open
LOS ANGELES, CA - August 15, 2006: Chronicling what many consider "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Petersen Automotive Museum offers the world's most comprehensive history in a new permanent exhibit on the Indianapolis 500 auto race. Showcasing its early century beginning to its current status as the most watched single-day sporting event in the world, the exhibit celebrates the on-track achievements of some of the most acclaimed automotive sports heroes of their time.
The remarkable presentation includes official Indianapolis Motor Speedway photographs that depict every vehicle and driver who has won the prestigious motor race from 1911 to the present. The collection of official photographs will grow each year as future winners are crowned during upcoming special events at the museum. Also featured in the Museum's ongoing exhibition are rare, precision-built scale models and coveted race-winning cars.
"We are extremely proud to be able to feature such a unique, visual history of one of the world's greatest motorsports events," says Dick Messer, director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. "This unique display provides the most thorough history of the Indianapolis 500 found anywhere in the country."
The exhibit will honor famous 1963 Indy 500 champion Parnelli Jones, highlighting his cars and serving as a backdrop for "An Evening with Parnelli Jones" on November 9, 2006. Tickets for the event, which include dinner, program and parking, are $100 per person if purchased before November 1, 2006. To purchase tickets, please contact Terry Garay at the Checkered Flag 200 office at the Petersen Museum at 323-964-6366.
