CRUZ PEDREGON AND THE ADVANCE AUTO PARTS TEAM QUALIFY FOURTH; OUT IN FIRST
ROUND AFTER SIZZLING DAY IN MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (August 21, 2006) - Despite qualifying fourth, Cruz Pedregon
and his Advance Auto Parts Race Team were eliminated after a hot first round
matchup in the Nitro Funny Car division during the NHRA Nationals this past
weekend at Memphis (TN) Motorsports Park.  


"The Advance Auto Parts Team had a good car early in the weekend when the
track was about 120 degrees, and we know that in those kind of conditions we
can usually run with anyone," Pedregon stated.  "However, it was very hot in
Memphis and we smoked the tires (lost traction).  In fact, it was probably
the hottest I've felt in the car in my entire career - it was brutal.  We
thought we made all of the proper adjustments, but for some reason the car
had 200 more rpms during that opening round, and I had to get off the
throttle and back on the throttle.  By that time, Capps had a lead on me.
The good news is we are testing in Indianapolis on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Advance Auto Parts Team will focus on running in the hottest part of the
day, and we'll get our hot-track setup worked out heading into the big U.S.
Nationals in a couple of weeks."

 

Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Race Team will also be racing this
upcoming weekend at the World Series of Drag Racing match race in Cordova,
IL.
