Mosport Speedway fans ignored the weather forecast and showed up in
large numbers to support their favourite OSCAAR drivers and witness one
of the best races of the season. John Fletcher and the JNE Consulting
#61 Team pulled off their 6th win, a hard fought one that saw four race
leaders challenge for the victory.
Quickly out of the gate was outside pole sitter Rob Clarke. He took the
lead for the first six laps but then lost it to Gary Passer in the Jenco
Equipment #52 car. Passer was in a league of his own on his way to
leading a total of 13 laps. On lap 14 the only caution of the race was
brought on by Clarke and that bunched up the field. The London
Mechanical Plumbing & Heating #49 Team went to work in the pits but the
rear end suspension had gone forcing Clarke to withdraw from the race.
A caution was not what Gary Passer wanted to see as his car was starting
to push up the track. After several good laps of hard racing, Phil
Bullen got by Passer and took the lead for the next 14 laps. With
Fletcher on the rear bumper of Bullen, the two put on a great show for
the fans until Fletcher passed on the outside lane and went on to lead
the final 17 laps. The battle then was for 2nd on back.
TJ Woolsey was so discouraged at Kawartha he could barely face climbing
out of the car when the Twin 35's were done. But a day with Jeff Hanley
and pre-race set-up assistance by Al Shepstone clearly made a difference
to the V&L Transportation #43 car. Woolsey took home 2nd place at
Mosport, his best finish ever in OSCAAR. TJ exclaimed, "Awesome - I want
to thank my crew, Jeff Hanley and Al Shepstone for all their hard work
and helping me out!" Woolsey also worked on being patient trying to save
some tires for the last laps. With fewer than 10 to go, Woolsey went on
the high side of Bullen and got a perfect run to pass for the second spot.
Phil Bullen crossed the finish line 3rd. The ASA Alloys #67 Team were
hoping for their first ever win with their driver in the lead. It may be
small consolation when you feel so close to winning but the team can
take pride in their continuing top performance and for Bullen's first
time leading an OSCAAR feature. Bullen acknowledged the support of his
sponsors, ASA Alloys and FOX Racing Canada for coming on board.
Glenn Watson and the Rival Offices #22 Team continued to impress with
their 4th place finish. Watson also moves up a spot to 4th in the
standings. Pee Wee Evans and the Bowens Automotive #90 Team were hard at
work during the past week repairing damage from the Kawartha wreck. That
hard work paid off nicely with a 5th place run at Mosport.
Rounding out the top ten for the night were: in 6th & winner of the POTG
Hard Charger award, the Spicer's Towing #89 of Drew Spicer; 7th to Dale
Stroud Enterprises #11 with Stu Robinson Jr; 8th to Gowland Sand &
Gravel #18 of Bruce Gowland; 9th to The Diesel Doctors #7.3 of Ken
Hayward; and the 10th spot went to Jenco Equipment #27 of Roy Passer.
