WHITE WINS FIRST WALLY AT RAIN SHORTENED PALM BEACH NHRA SPORT COMPACT
NATIONALS; PRAYOONTO WINS THIRD

 

JUPITER, Fla. - Gary White (Pro RWD) won his first career NHRA Wally at
the Palm Beach NHRA Sport Compact Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park.

 

This was one of two pro categories to complete racing at the event due
to rain that came for the second time of the day, and put a close to the
evening.

 

White from New Market, Al., won by defeating Matt Scranton who had a
crash near the finish line, but White was clearly ahead at the time.  He
finished with a time of 7.40 seconds at 173.61 mph.

 

"I was thrilled," White said.  "I had a bet with one of our crew members
that he would quit smoking when I won.  He gave me his cigarettes in the
pit.  Brad (Personett) and Eric (Luzinski) set-up the car for the final.
I want to say how sorry I am for the Scranton team.  Matt and (brother)
Jay (Scranton) were very congratulatory."

 

The other category to complete their round of racing was Honda Tuning
All Motor in which Norris Prayoonto won for the third time in his
career.

 

Prayoonto (Springfield, Md.), who is in the chase for the championship
lead, was able to finish comfortably after his opponent Jeremy Lookofsky
red lit.  Prayoonto finished with a time of 9.66 seconds at 140.09 mph.

 

"It feels good to win again," Prayoonto said.  "Saul (Salceda), Jeremy,
and I had two wins.  I'm the first to win three."

 

The other classes that need to finish their finals are Pro FWD,
Modified, and Hot Rod in the pro categories, and Sport FWD, Sport RWD,
and BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock.  These final rounds will be run
during the qualifying rounds at NHRA Sport Compact Fallnationals
presented by Toyo Tires, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park.
