NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Saturday from Yellowstone Drag Strip (National)

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES - NORTHWEST DIVISION

SATURDAY, AUGUST, 19 2006  
O'BANNON, HOUGH QUALIFY FIRST AT YELLOWSTONE
 
            ACTON, Mont. - The final rounds of qualifying are complete
at Yellowstone Drag Strip's 3rd Annual Summer Championships, a round of
the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.  Top Alcohol Dragster pilot, Sean
O'Bannon and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, Brian Hough will begin
Sunday's eliminations in the top position. 
Sean O'Bannon, of Alta Loma, Calif., outran the field with a pass of
5.573 seconds at 258.52 mph.  In the number two position, Jim Whiteley,
of Grand Junction, Colo., ran 5.612 seconds at 249.26 mph.
            Junction City, Ore., resident Brian Hough, took the number
one spot with a pass of 5.810 seconds, at 249.39 mph.  Hough outran
Clint Thompson of Klamath Falls, Ore., who qualified second with a time
of 5.833 seconds at 246.48 mph.
            Comp Eliminator driver, Jeff Lane, of North Bend, Wash.,
found the top position with a pass of 8.204 seconds, while hometown
racer Clint Salee of Glendive, Mont., will get the number two spot in
Sunday's eliminations.  In Super Stock, Sean Cour of Prairie, Wash.,
qualified in the first position in his '04 Cavalier while Byron Setters
of Red Deer, Alberta, took the second spot.
            Tony Hernandez of Denver finished the day strong, clinching
the top spot in Stock Eliminator driving a '65 Corvette.  Top Comp racer
Shawn Cowie also qualified in first with a pass of 6.538 seconds at
206.16 mph.  In the Sportsman Motorcycle category presented by Harley
Davidson, it was Jeff Havens of Yakima, Wash., that pulled off a perfect
reaction time in his '95 Suzuki to take the first position.
            Racing continues Sunday at Yellowstone Drag Strip.  Gates
open at 8:00 a.m.  Eliminations begin at 9 a.m.  Tickets are $20 for
adults and children 12 and under are free.  For more information please
