Charities Benefit from Journalists' Auto Racing Skills at AAA Event
DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 18, 2006 -- Bob Schuman, a reporter for WYCD- FM, "Young Country," recorded the best speed yesterday in the AAA Motorsports Charity Challenge Media-Cup, a simulated NASCAR-type race event sponsored by AAA Michigan at its Dearborn headquarters. Schuman took first place and earned a $500 donation from AAA Michigan to his favorite charity, Ronald McDonald House of Detroit.
Donna Barbera, a reporter for WJR-AM, earned the top score for her performance using Driver-ZED(TM), an interactive DVD that puts teen drivers through 100 different driving scenarios, allowing them to experience conditions it could take several years to encounter on the road. She is donating her award of $500 to Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit.
AAA sponsors the Roush Racing Team's #6 AAA Ford Fusion and driver Mark Martin in this year's NEXTEL Cup Series of NASCAR races.
