Mountain Magic - Washington Women Dominate Packwood
PACKWOOD, Wash. (August 15, 2006) - A total of 251 soloists converged at
Hampton Mills last weekend, ready to play in the mountains for the 10th
and final round of the Tire Rack(r) SCCA Solo National Tour.
Locals had a big impact on the weekend, taking home 22 class wins.
Washington women in particular were on a roll in Packwood. Three such
ladies earned their third win of the season including: Puyallup, Wash.
residents Angela Moffet, driving her Kumho/Team Naykid Chevrolet Z06 in
the Ladies Street Modified 2 category, and A Street Prepared Ladies
driver LiNay White in the KUMHO/Corsa/Forgelin Dodge Viper SRT. Annie
Bauer of Kent, Wash., earned her third G Stock Ladies win behind the
wheel of the Fordahl Motorsports Mini Cooper S.
That particular Mini Cooper S had loads of run time in Packwood and
plenty of hardware to show for it. Shalyn Morrow, of Kirkland, Wash. ran
with Bauer in the G Stock Ladies class and finished second, 1.493
seconds behind Bauer. In addition to Bauer and Morrow, Jake Nygaard, of
Kikrland, Wash., and Glen Hernandez, of Marysville, Wash., managed to
put the same SpeedWrap.com Mini Cooper S in second and third on the
timesheets for the G Stock class.
Another car taking multiple wins was the Subaru WRX STi of Ryan and
Lacey Otis. The husband and wife duo, from Beaverton, Ore., put their
chariot in the top spot in both Street Touring(r) Ultra and Street
Touring Ultra Ladies.
Ronald and Karen Babb, of Renton, Wash., put on an equally impressive
performance in D Modified. Ronald managed to squeak out an extra
0.022-second better than Karen for the win in the couple's 1967 Lotus
Elan. It was the closest margin of victory at the event.
The E Stock class was a portrait of domination as Jerry Jenkins, of
Vancouver, Wash., finished a massive 3.152 seconds ahead of the
competition in the AEP Racing Mazda Miata. The competition happened to
be the very same car, only rebadged as a PDX Tuning Mazda Miata and at
the command of Salem, Ore. resident Andrew Howe. Meanwhile, another
Washington lady was cleaning house in E Stock Ladies; Bremerton resident
Jodi Fordahl pushed her Fordahl Motorsports Porsche 944 a commanding
3.621 seconds ahead of the pack. The win was Fordahl's second of the
season.
In addition to the three women mentioned earlier, two familiar fellas
were able to grab win number three at Packwood: Andy Hollis of Austin,
Texas, driving his Soulspeed/ART/GRM Mazda Miata in the Street Touring
S2 category, and Keith Brown of Des Moines, Wash., in the H Stock class,
driving a Team RH!/Jim's Detail Mini Cooper.
Solo enthusiasts will now have to wait an agonizing six weeks before the
rubber hits the pavement again, but the 2006 Tire Rack Solo National
Championships at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. will certainly be worth
the wait. The grand finale will take place Sept. 26-29.
