Washington DC Autgust 16, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Honda announced it will expand its Lincoln, Alabama car plant in order to produce more engine components and lessen its dependence on out-of-state suppliers.

The $40 million expansion will add about 41,000 square feet and 20 new jobs, reports The Associated Press.

Calvin Miller, executive director of the Talladega County Economic Development Authority, said the move would save Honda more than $100,000 annually for 10 years.

The automaker employs nearly 4,500 people at the factory, which manufactures the Odyssey minivan.
