Mark Martin Appearance & Media Charity Challenge

WHO Mark Martin -- A veteran on the NEXTEL Cup Circuit and driver of the #6 AAA Ford Fusion, Martin currently ranks 6th in the overall NEXTEL Cup point standings. He is in the Detroit area preparing for the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. The race will take place Sunday, August 20 at 2 p.m.

WHY To raise funds for favorite media charities. To raise awareness about safety and security on our nation's highways and the importance of parents serving as role models for teen drivers.

A racing simulator duplicates the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. Compete against fellow media for one Grand Prize to benefit the charity of winner's choice. Media members will also compete using AAA's interactive DriverZED program. Top scorers in both events earn $500 for their charity. Interview opportunities will be available with AAA-sponsored NEXTEL Cup driver Mark Martin.

During the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing season, AAA is sponsoring driver Mark Martin and the #6 AAA Ford Fusion Roush Racing team. A replica of the #6 Car will be on display during the Charity Challenge and Mark will meet with media at the event to speak and take questions. Interview and photo opportunities will be available.

Learn how many of the safety features on passenger vehicles were introduced and perfected in auto racing (shoulder and lap belts, rear view mirrors, hydraulic brakes).
