The evening's racing will feature sprint cars, O'Neal Wood Products modifieds in the Modified Wolfpack Challenge and Tire & Wheel Center super stocks. The Modified Wolfpack Challenge is in its fifth season; but they will be making their fourth appearance on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway. And, like most series of this kind, it has gotten better each season. However, unlike most series, there are literally hundreds of modified competitors who will be anxious to test themselves against the best. Just about all area modifieds have been built to conform with UMP rules. This is intended to give eligibility to the most teams while keeping the competition equal. This should fill the pits to overflowing for this special event. As our regular fans know, some of the best modified drivers in the state regularly compete on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway each Friday night. Our regulars should have an edge on the visiting stars at least in the preliminaries. However, the visitors will learn to read the track. The feature should, indeed, be a race to remember. Last Friday night Josh Eads drove to the first feature win of his career. He had a little help when former O'Neal Wood Products modified champion Ray Humphrey lost his left front wheel. However, it still took a lap 23 pass of Kent Robinson to seal the deal. The O'Neal Wood Products modified points leaders are Kent Robinson, John DeMoss, Matt Boknecht, Jeff Bland, Jr., Ryan Thomas, Ray Humphrey, Richie Lex, Clint DeMoss, Josh Eads, and Bradley Sterrett. Any of these guys are capable of winning any time their cars roll onto the track. While they probably have an edge on the visiting stars, some of the visitors see enough different tracks that they'll probably be able to adapt pretty quickly. And, one of the best probable visitors, Dan Hamstra, has competed at Bloomington Speedway often over the years. Don't miss this exciting night of racing!!!! There should be plenty of Tire & Wheel Center super stocks too as their will be an extra $500 in their purse. The winner will earn $600 with proper decals Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM, the grandstand gates will open at 5:30 PM, hot laps will start at 6:30 PM, and racing will begin at 7:30 PM. General admission is $10 for this event (children 6 and under are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by a paying adult amd children 7-12 are admitted for only $5 when accompanied by a paying adult); and pit admission is $25. This will bring a new group of sprint car competitors to the red clay of Bloomington Speedway. Of course, most of them have competed at Bloomington Speedway at one time or another. However, it will be great to see them in competition against our regular sprint car racers. The top ten drivers in their points right now are Alex Shanks, Hud Cone, Kyle Cummins, Jerry Ruble, Chris Windom, Kyle Wissmiller, Jeff Davis, Chase Stockton, Donnie Bracket, and Dale Christian. The MSCS is about the only sprint car series operating in our area except for USAC; and since they run basically the same rules that we run and the same as those used by other area tracks, all of the competitors should be at the top of their game. The main difference is that they run a spec tire. Of course that might give the visitors a slight edge; but they won't know any more about how the tire will work on Mike Mile's signature track than our regular Friday night competitors do. It's anybody's guess; but the visitors may well find that they'll have their hands full competing against the likes of Kevin Briscoe, Dickie Gaines, Jon Stanbrough, etc. One thing that the MSCS visit to Bloomington Speedway is sure to bring is pits that are overflowing. When you add their regular competitors with our normal great car counts, we should have plenty of top racers on hand to entertain our great Bloomington Speedway fans. There should also be plenty of O'Neal Wood Products modifieds, Tire & Wheel Stock super stocks as their feature will pay $600 to win with proper decals. This will give the fans more of what they come to Bloomington Speedway to see - GREAT RACING. There will be only one more sprint car points races after the August 25 race. Everyone will be going all out to improve their position in the points races. Chuck Welsh has done a great job of raising cash and contingency awards for our competitors this season; and they will be going all out to maximize their share of the loot. In the O'Neal Wood Products modified division only 34 points separate the top four drivers (Kent Robinson, John DeMoss, Matt Boknecht, and Jeff Bland, Jr.). Any of them are capable of making a charge to win the championship. And, of course, all of the competitors have the opportunity to improve their positions in the points races and their year end points awards.. In the Tire & Wheel Center super stock division Jeremy Hines holds a 64 point lead over Joe Lucas. However, only 158 points separate the top ten competitors. On August 25, these guys along with all of the other Tire & Wheel Center super stock racers are expected to be on hand to pick up the points along with the extra prize money. Because performance at Bloomington Speedway such a good measure of a racer's performance, a Bloomington Speedway championship is one of the most coveted in the area.
