SCOTT LOOKING FORWARD TO CLAIMING THIRD STRAIGHT CAROLINA/VIRGINIA TITLE
INDIANAPOLIS – Chase Scott is in the catbird’s seat in obtaining his third
straight USAC Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car Series championship.
The Concord, N.C. native is looking forward to claiming that third
consecutive title, which would make him the first driver to win three
consecutive Ford Focus titles. The series’ final race is scheduled for
Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway in Virginia.
Scott owns an 80-point lead over rookie Mark Burt. Another rookie, Bradley
Riethmeyer, is third in the standings, four points behind Burt. Riethmeyer
has two victories and Burt one this season. Scott owns four victories,
though none has come since June 10 at Hickory Motor Speedway in North
Carolina.
Since Scott won June 10, five other drivers have won features in the next
five races.
Last Friday’s race at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C. was cancelled
due to rain, nixing Burt’s chances to catch the two-time champ.
