Indiana Midget Week For Midgets
"INDIANA MIDGET WEEK" RACES AT GAS CITY & KOKOMO; CLAUSON WINS SALEM'S 30-LAP FEATURE
This week's second annual "Indiana Midget Week" consists of a pair of USAC Midget races at Gas City I-69 Speedway (Friday) and Kokomo Speedway (Sunday) continuing an annual series of races similar to the extremely popular USAC "Indiana Sprint Week."
A 30-lap feature caps the Gas City and Kokomo races, which will offer a total of 148 points to competitors battling for the 2006 USAC National Midget Championship. That's significant, with only 76 separating the top five in the current standings!
Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. has his hat securely in the ring for the title after winning Saturday's 30-lap race at Salem (Ind.) Speedway, part of the track's 49th Jasper Engines & Transmissions "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Classic." Clauson led the final 21 laps in his Advanced Racing Beast/Fontana, taking the lead when teammate Darren Hagen suffered mechanical problems after pacing the first nine laps. Dave Steele finished second, ahead of Bobby Santos III, Jerry Coons Jr. and Josh Wise.
Coons leads the standings by 16 over Clauson, with Dave Darland 40 back, Jay Drake 42 in arrears and defending titlist Wise fifth.
