LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR SHEPHERD AT NASHVILLE

NASHVILLE, TENN. (August 12, 2006)- Peter Shepherd went to Nashville with the intention of gaining valuable experience by competing in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races. Unfortunately, things did not go quite as planned.

Shepherd completed ARCA practice Friday and was all set to qualifying when the skies opened up and rained out qualifying, leaving it to be run prior to truck qualifying on race day. The rain washed away all the rubber that had accumulated on the track making for a slippery ARCA qualifying. Shepherd's No. 39 Headz Gamez/Reliance Tool/BeavEx Ford came around on him during his qualifying run, resulting in heavy left side damage to the car. Due to ARCA qualifying procedures, the No. 39 team was not eligible for a provisional since they did not complete a qualifying lap of record, leaving Shepherd to watch from the sidelines.

Shepherd was able to turn all his focus to his No. 50 Headz Gamez Ford F-150. After posting a qualifying lap time of 30.263 mph around the 1.333-mile Nashville Superspeedway, Shepherd would take the green flag from the 26th starting position.

With the help of his team Shepherd worked his way forward through the pack, picking off one truck at a time. Pit strategy also helped him gain track position, and at halfway Shepherd was running 13th.

The No. 50 was strong on green flag runs, but there were many cautions that didn't help with the tight handling condition of the truck on short runs. Following the eighth caution of the day, the restart on lap 117 proved to be too much. The transmission stuck on a shift, killing the driveline of the No. 50 Ford. All Shepherd could do was coast around the track and return to the garage for a 31st-place finish.

"This weekend was a learning experience, there's no doubt about it," said Shepherd. "Wrecking the ARCA car, that really hurt. I was looking forward to getting 150 laps in with the No. 39 Roulo Brothers team, but it wasn't to be. I overdrove the car and lost it, but at least no one can say I wasn't trying to get all I could out of it. The truck race luckily went better, I gained a lot of experience running my first speedway race. I hate that we broke the transmission out of it, but we did what we could with it. I've got to thank Headz Gamez, Reliance Tool and BeavEx for coming on board, and I'm looking forward to getting to Michigan next week to race the ARCA car up there for them again."
