Sprint Cars Will Not Be in Action This Thursday at SSP on Camera and Autograph Night
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (August 13, 2006) - The Sprint Cars have be removed from the racing programs for Thursday, August 17 and Thursday, August 24. SSP owners, Todd and Rhonda Fisher have decided to remove the Sprint Cars from these nights and they will return on Thursday, August 31 at the York County Nationals. There will be three Sprint Car features completed on August 31 including the June 22 make up feature and the completion of the August 10 feature which was postponed due to rain on lap 9. The third feature of that evening has been reduced to 25 laps and the lineups will be determined as they were last year with the top five in points and three heat winners competing in the King of the Posse Match races to determine the starting lineup for the 25 lap feature event.
"The decision to remove the Sprint Cars for the next two weeks was based on the fact that there are not enough fans purchasing tickets at the prices necessary to support the purses needed for the Sprint Car teams to compete," said Todd Fisher, SSP co-owner. "Since the beginning of May, we have seen a steady decline of fans attending Sprint Car races due to numerous reasons. With the current state of the economy, we cannot risk the future of the speedway by continuously losing money on Sprint Car programs and reducing their purse money is not an option." This decision was made prior to the rains that postponed the August 10 feature event on lap 9. Sprint Cars are expected to be on the 2007 schedule 6-8 times on Thursday nights.
There are no rainchecks honored from the August 10 event as two feature events had been completed.
On Thursday, August 17, the popular Camera and Autograph Night will return featuring the Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars and EMMR Vintage Cars. It will also be York County Racing Club Night. The Xtreme Stock Car feature postponed on Thursday, August 10 will also be completed on this night.
On Friday, August 18, the Trail Motors Super Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks return in action along with the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van Construction Race.
This Friday will also be the third race of a four race series for all Street Stock drivers who are 21 years of age and younger to compete in a five lap dash race presented by Clean Technologies. The winner of the dash will receive $100.00 with second place collecting $50.00. Both third and fourth place finishers will receive $25.00 each. The driver with the best cumulative finishes over the four race series will receive $200.00. The final race of the series will be Friday, September 1. The current point standings after two rounds are 1. Chad Smith (17); 2. Joey Hoffer (15); 3. Eric Walker (12); 4. Dave Thompson and Jenn Scott (3). Smith and Hoffer have picked up wins in rounds one and two respectively.
Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 5:00 p.m. on both Thursday, August 17 and Friday, August 18. Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can continue to expect a fast paced, action packed 2 ½ to 3 hour program each and every night.
Grandstand ticket prices for Thursday, August 17 are Adults & Teens (13 & older) $8.00 and Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced rate for SSP license holders.
Grandstand ticket prices for Friday, August 18 are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; and Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced rate for SSP license holders.
There will be an SSP Repeat Fan Discount of $2.00 for each person with a ticket stub from August 10 or August 11 events for both August 17 or August 18. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30.00 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
