Herta, XM Satellite Radio Team Collect 10th Place Finish at Kentucky
SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 13, 2006) - Bryan Herta and the #7 XM Satellite Radio team faced a wide
range of emotions during Sunday's running of the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway and ultimately
came home with a 10th place finish at the 1.5-mile oval.
Starting 13th, Herta fell a couple spots in the initial stages of the race. When the first yellow flag of
the day came out on lap 56, the XM Satellite Radio team was able to gain a few positions as other cars had
to make quick-splash stops and lost positions. Herta fought a car that did not handle well in traffic
throughout the race so when another yellow flag came out on lap 119, they chose not to pit, putting them into
the lead. When the race resumed, Herta was able to maintain the lead for several laps before eventually
giving way to faster cars. Making his final pit stop out of sequence with the other cars, Herta was able to
finish on the lead lap and score his fifth top 10 of the year.
He is currently 11th in the driver championship and is only 17 points out of seventh place.
Sam Hornish Jr. picked up the victory. He was followed across the line by Scott Dixon, Helio
Castroneves and Dan Wheldon. Herta's AGR teammate Tony Kanaan rounded out the top five.
With only two events remaining on the 2006 schedule, the IndyCar Series will return to action on
Sunday, Aug. 27, with the second annual Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma from Infineon Raceway. ESPN will
provide live coverage of the event beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). All IndyCar Series races can also be heard
live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers on XM channel 145, the official home of the IndyCar Series.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"Today was a fairly good day for the XM Satellite Radio team. We expect to be better than 10th
place, but we held on and scored some solid points. The car was not very good in traffic but it got better as
the track came to us. Today was a step in the right direction. The crew did such a good job in the pits and it
was nice to run up front today."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The strategy we used didn't hurt us but it didn't work either. The important thing from today is that I
think the XM Satellite Radio team is heading in a positive direction. I think today gives everyone some
encouragement. Again, 10th place isn't what we're looking for but I think we were able to race today. We
were able to lead at one point and Bryan did a great job holding guys off and not making it easy for them.
This weekend showed that we're moving in the right direction."
