Late Race Troubles Result in 17th Place Finish
for Andretti and NYSE Car at Kentucky
SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 13, 2006) - Marco Andretti appeared headed for another top-10 finish
before bad luck in the race's final stages resulted in a 17th place finish for the #26 NYSE car Sunday
afternoon at the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
Andretti, starting the event from 18th place on the grid, had made his way into the top 10 by lap 20
of the event. Slipping back slightly following his initial pit stop, the rookie-of-the-year challenger again
moved forward. He gained seventh place by the race's midway point and was in sixth place by lap 140.
However, Andretti encountered trouble entering pit lane on his final pit stop, resulting in debris building up
on his tires. Upon exiting pit lane, he felt something amiss with the car and elected to pit while the crew
examined the NYSE machine. He rejoined the race but not before falling three laps off the pace.
Sam Hornish Jr. took the victory with Scott Dixon second, Helio Castroneves third, Dan Wheldon
fourth and teammate Tony Kanaan rounding out the top five.
Through 12 events of the 2006 season, Andretti stands ninth in the driver point standings with
263 points, just eight points shy of seventh place.
Andretti and the entire IndyCar Series resume action at the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at
Infineon Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 27. The event will be televised live by ESPN, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
(EDT). It can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into XM channel 145.
Marco Andretti, #26 NYSE Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"This was another good race for experience. If the NYSE car would have finished the thing we
would have had another top 10. But we didn't get the finish we wanted. We just had too many mistakes,
some in the pits as well as by myself on the final pit stop. I just wish we could have been with the lead
group fighting for the win."
Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"It was a good day up to a point and then the wheels fell off over the last 20 laps. Everybody on
the NYSE team, from Marco to the crew, had an off day. We had bad pit stops, over-pressured tires,
driving through the grass; it just really wasn't meant to be our day."
