Kanaan Drives Team 7-Eleven Car
to Fifth-Place Finish at Kentucky Speedway
SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 13, 2006) -Tony Kanaan earned his seventh top-five finish of the season as
he piloted the #11 Team 7-Eleven car to a hard-fought fifth-place finish Sunday afternoon at the Meijer Indy
300 at Kentucky Speedway.
Starting from fourth place on the starting grid, Kanaan steadily remained among the lead pack until
the event's first caution fell on lap 56. Quick pit work by the Team 7-Eleven crew saw Kanaan return to
action in third place. But the car just didn't have the speed, yet on each pit stop the crew would again gain
the 2004 IndyCar Series champion positions in the running order. Kanaan resided in fifth place as he took
the final restart on lap 195 and maintained his status to the checkered flag.
Sam Hornish Jr. took the victory with Scott Dixon second, Helio Castroneves third and Dan
Wheldon fourth.
Through 12 events this season, Kanaan stands sixth in the driver point standings with 339 points,
nine points shy of fifth-place Vitor Meira.
Kanaan and the entire IndyCar Series return to action on Aug. 27 with the Indy Grand Prix of
Sonoma at Infineon Raceway. The event will be televised live by ESPN beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). It
can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into XM channel 145.
Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The #11 Team 7-Eleven car just didn't have the speed that I would have liked so I'm not satisfied
with fifth place; we should have finished better. The guys did a great job in the pits today and they deserved
better than what we finished, too."
Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
"We've been struggling a bit with our speed and we didn't have it again today. Tony did an
awesome job out on the race track and we were certainly the fastest in pit lane, we improved our position
with each stop so hats off to Team 7-Eleven. It was just a real 'hang in there' day for Team 7-Eleven."
