done for the day-

Barctwller, of Vera Beach, Fla., and his mdriwr, Hamson 8rix of   San Jose,

Calif., ended up 23rd in the final rundown with their  Feeds the Nearnoran Racing

DORAN JE4 Ford No. i7 that carries the oolcirs of the Kodak EasyShare System,

Amp'd Mobile and SIRIUS.

Brix started tenth and the car was eighth by lap nine of the two-hour race on

the Glen's 2.45-milq 11-turn short murs~. He was 3611 eighth when he pitted on lap

15 under a yellow for the Dyson No. 16, and Ekmheller got in at that point, With the

mandatory driver change and pit stop already aocomplishd and the excellent fuel

mileage of the team's Ford powerplant aided further by a race that was experiencing

several full-course cautions, hopes were high for a great finish.

After the crew's excellent pit stop Borh?ller was in 18th place and still on the

lead lap for the resmrt an lap 19.  We  passed Tracy Krohn on the restart for 17th and

got 16th when Tommy Erdos pitted on lap  21.  He passed both Guy Cosrnr, and Joao

Borcheller ran his fa3Wt lap of the race, a 1 09.81 9 for an average speed d

126.327 miles per hour, on lap 27, and he was doing his best to pass Huisman. On

lap 31 Huisman got Imse in Turn Eight, space ran out, they made contact, and bath

driers were forced to retire 49  minutes into the event due to the damage their cars

Incurred.

"His car just pitched sideways," Borcheller said afterwards. 'I  was rally close

to him because 1  had been trying to pass him.  I  had k e n  struggling to get by him

be-uqe hg w w  biwking a  lot  and  hi6  Porsche w ~ l s                                                             f-r than  my car  on the

straights.  The air from his car was giving me an aero push behind him.  I was trying

different things and I was doing everything 1  a u l d  to get by him, but when he pitched

sideways there was no way I could miss him because I was just too close.

"I never anticipated his car reacting the way it did; he went completely side-

ways,''  he continued.  "I checked up to   amld hitting him, but there was  no possible

way that I  wasn't going to hit him because I was too dose.

'I'm  totally fine physically but I feel really bad for the team," he added. 'I think

we had a topfive car and maybe even a podium, and that was pretty exciting for the

whole team. I've thought a lot about it since it happmd but I really don't know what

I could have done differently. When you're behind the wheel it's your fault na matter

wh&t, but that's hard to swallow in this case. It's just very fru9trating for all of  us."

Scott PruBtt and Luis Diaz went on to win the 82-141 race, which was broad-

cast later Friday night on SPEED-

The next raw will tm at lnfinecln Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. on Saturday, Aug.
