Press Release from Chris Bingham - Grand Am Rolex Series Competitor

The following release comes directly from Grand Am Rolex Series Competitor Chris Bingham:

For immediate release (8/08/06)

Chris Bingham announced his resignation today from the Derhaag Motorsports, Rolex Grand American Sports Car team. Chris has had to make the difficult decision to step away from the team with three races remaining, due to a number of constraints on his availability. Driving professionally whilst overseeing a number of his business endeavors in the Northwest, plus the desire to allow someone else to earn valuable time behind the wheel and provide the team with continued feedback, brought Chris to this conclusion. This action comes as teams prepared for the Crown Royal 200 at the Glen this weekend.

‘I have been a part of Grand-Am racing for a number of years and have greatly enjoyed my time behind the wheel, including the Saleen S7R Park Place Racing team that won the GTS class championship in 2001 and 2002’. I have realized that I have reached a point this season where I am not able to contribute to improved performances for the team. I am passionate about racing and plan on being back behind the wheel in the 2007 season.

"Driving with the #15 CB Motorsports team in 2005 and #40 Derhaag Motorsports team in 2006 has brought about many challenges and some great racing opportunities in this incredibly competitive series. As I stated at the end of last year, I still have will, desire and motivation to compete at the top of this series. If that was not the case I would not be on the track.

"Derhaag Motorsports provided me with an opportunity to drive this year and I began the year with great expectations; however the car has not been competitive as we would have liked, and perhaps the time has come to allow another driver to try and help the team move forward.

"I hope to be able to restructure a more competitive drive next year that will allow me to challenge for finishes on the podium and look forward to getting back on the track as soon as possible.’
