MapInfo(R)-based Applications Named 2006 Best of New York Winners

TROY, N.Y.--Aug. 7, 2006--MapInfo Corporation , a leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced that solutions developed for the New York Police Department's (NYPD) Real Time Crime Center and the New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination were selected as recipients of the prestigious 2006 Best of New York Awards. This annual awards program sponsored by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute, and Government Technology recognizes excellence and outstanding contributions in the area of information technology.

Recognized in the category of "Project Best Advancing Agency Business Objectives," the NYPD's Real Time Crime Center leverages MapInfo MapXtreme(R) to provide officers with instantaneous access to a wide variety of data, enabling them to identify and respond to emerging crimes quickly. Described as the NYPD's technology nerve center, the Real Time Crime Center delivers critical information and visual analysis to detectives in seconds, rather than hours or even days, helping to keep New York City's streets safe.

The New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination (CSCIC) received an award for "Project Demonstrating Best Sustainable Value" for its Digital Orthoimagery Program and Interactive Mapping Gateway. Developed with MapInfo MapXtreme, the Interactive Mapping Gateway offers convenient access to digital orthoimagery--the combination of aerial images with geometric map qualities--providing all levels of government with current and accurate geographic information. With MapInfo's help, the Interactive Mapping Gateway enables users to easily create, view, download and share imagery which supports CSCIC's efforts in cyber security readiness and critical infrastructure coordination to protect New York State's public and private assets.

"As evidenced by these applications, location intelligence provides government agencies with a leading edge in protecting citizens and assets," said Michael Hickey, COO at MapInfo. "We are delighted that two of our customers were recognized for their innovative solutions."
