REICHERT, BURNETT HOLD ON TO TOP QUALIFIER STATUS AT NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG
RACING EVENT

            ST. LOUIS - In the final rounds of qualifying at Gateway Int'l
Raceway's inaugural NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Bill Reichert
maintain his No. 1 qualifier status in Top Alcohol Dragster and Jeff Burnett
held on to the top spot in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  There were 13 Top Alcohol
Dragster competitors and 11 Top Alcohol Funny Car racers vying for eight
qualifying spots in each class.

Reichert opened qualifying on Friday by setting the track's elapsed time
record at 5.305 seconds (274.27 mph).  He did not improve on that run today
but it was more than enough to keep the Owosso, Mich., racer in the
qualifying lead.  Lee Callaway, Channelview, Texas, landed in the No. 2 spot
with a 5.392-second, 270.00 mph in the final qualifying run.  Callaway
started the day in the No. 12 position and moved to seventh in today's first
session.

            Brownsburg, Ind., racer Burnett improved on Friday's qualifying
effort, running 5.692 seconds at 252.43 mph to stay No. 1.  Mick Snyder of
Demotte, Ind., also improved but remained in the second qualifying spot with
a 5.722-second, 252.28 mph effort.

            In other qualifying classes, Super Stock competitor Robin Brown,
Madisonville, Ky., and Top Sportsman racer Earl Folse, Raceland, La.,
maintained their top qualifier status.  And in Comp Eliminator Bruno Massel
Jr., Woodridge, Ill., moved into the top spot as did Stock Eliminator's
Gregory Greening, Columbia, Mo.

Racing continues Sunday at Gateway Int'l Raceway.  Gates open at 7 a.m. and
eliminations are slated to begin at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top
Alcohol Funny Car start first round of eliminations at 1 p.m.

            Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series are $20 and
children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
