Vaught; Vision Racing Can’t Shake Bad Luck In Gateway

MADISON, Ill. (August 3, 2006) - - Vision Racing can’t seem to shake their
luck. Literally.
After a rough finish in their debut together at Kansas Speedway, Vision
Racing and rookie driver Will Vaught bolted into Gateway International Raceway
looking for a turnaround in their second appearance together.
In the first practice session of the day, Vaught only maneuvered the 35th
fastest lap with a time of 36.452 seconds or 123.450 mph. It wasn’t what the
team was expecting, but vowed to make the necessary adjustments to correct the
handling of his racecar and put a competitive lap that would put the No. 37
Chevrolet Monte Carlo into the field.
In time trials, Vaught picked up the pace considerably. During his attempt,
Vaught maneuvered a time of 35.299 seconds equaling a speed of 127.482 mph
good enough for 28th on the starting grid.
“We picked up over a second from practice to qualifying and that’s great
for Vision Racing,?? said the rookie driver following his qualifying lap. “We
struggled in practice a little bit. It’s a new track for me so I was as green
as the flag at the start of the day. We’ve worked on the handling of our
Primeaux Kia Chevrolet and we improved it. We didn’t have a good finish at
Kansas, hopefully we can rebound tonight.??
During the race, Vaught and Vision Racing began a steady march towards the
front. While making his march towards the top-15, Vaught was racing with
another competitor when the other car squeezed the Missouri native into the
outside wall. The contact with the wall bent the exhaust immediately forcing
overheating problems on the No. 37 Chevrolet. Vaught brought his car to the
attention of his crew. Unfortunately, the damage was done and the team was unable to
correct the problem sending Vaught behind the wall and loading up with a
discouraged 34th place finish.
“This isn’t what we wanted tonight,?? said Vaught after the race. “We had a
great car. I mean the car was good and we were competitive and I just got
bumped out of this race. I just can’t believe we can’t catch a break. Vision
Racing has gone through enough this year, I would have liked to brought home a
solid finish for the team and it didn’t happen. I’m sorry for that, but I’m
really proud of the crew, they gave me something I was proud to drive.??
Car Owner and Crew Chief Adrian Berryhill echoed his young driver’s
statements. “Ever since Daytona, we can’t get the breaks. We’ve had nothing but bad
luck and we’ve got too good of a team to have this happen to us. Will did a
great job for the team tonight; it was something out of control and in racing
that happens. We can correct the damage and that’s the good thing. I’m just
disappointed for Primeaux Kia and all of our sponsors who were expecting a
good run on Friday night. If the incident wouldn’t have happened, I’m really
confident Will would have put our car into the top-15.??
Vision Racing with Roy Clark would like to thank Primeaux Kia, Wiley Law
Office and Branson Craft Mall who all served as sponsors on the No. 37 Chevrolet
Monte Carlo for the double-header weekend with the NASCAR Busch Series last
Friday.
“I would like to thank my sponsors for sticking by me,?? explained the
mature rookie. “We’ve having a couple of tough races, but we will get our luck
turned around. Vision Racing has proved they can be competitive in the ARCA
Series and we will return to that form, that’s a promise!??
The team will look to rebound in their next ARCA race at Nashville
Superspeedway a week from Saturday.
Vision Racing has additional marketing opportunities available for the No.
37 Chevrolet Monte Carlo at selected events in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
