3M NIGHT AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY KICKS OFF AUGUST SCHEDULE OF HOT RACING EVENTS AT 
IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY 

 

IRWINDALE, Calif. (August 3, 2006) – If you 
thought the month of July was hot, Irwindale Speedway’s schedule of racing 
events during the month of August will be even hotter! 3M Night this Saturday 
(August 5) kicks off the month’s racing action. 

 

Saturday’s schedule includes five races 
highlighted by the Auto Club Late Model race and the Pick Your Part Outlaw 
Figure 8’s competition featuring Jesse James, host of Discovery Channel’s 
Monster Garage television series. Travis Thirkettle of Newhall, Calif. will attempt to increase his Auto Club 
Late Model series point lead and extend his current consecutive win streak which 
stands at two. King Taco Super Truck series points leader Ron Peterson of 
Riverside, CA had his track record consecutive win streak 
snapped at eleven when rookie Matthew Hicks of Santee, Calif. scored an 
impressive win back on July 15. Ryan Black of Alta Loma, Calif. has a 26 point lead over Jeff Williams of 
Newberry Park, Calif. in the West Coast Pro Trucks series. 
Rick Crow of Simi Valley, 
Calif. has won four of six races 
this season in Justice Brothers Pure Stocks racing action. James is winless in 
Figure 8’s competition but is only 16 points behind Pick Your Part series leader 
Tom Smith who has four victories this season. Gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco 
fan appreciation autograph session will take place on the track at 5:45 p.m. Green flag action begins at 
7 
p.m.

 

Looking ahead, on August 12 Irwindale 
Speedway will 
host the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Tour on Stock Building Supply 
Night which includes a home improvement show. August 19 is King Taco Family 
Night where kids 12 and under get in free. The event will feature the Lucas Oil 
Super Late Model twin races and a Demolition Derby. August 26 is Villa Roma 
Sausage Night featuring the USAC Western Sprint Car series and the Ford Focus 
Midgets. Track officials have made arrangements for a 20’ x 27’ LED giant screen 
supplied by ScreenworksNEP to show TNT Network’s broadcast of the NASCAR Nextel 
Cup Sharpie 500, live from Bristol Motor Speedway while simultaneously 
conducting its racing activities on the track. Finally, on August 31 the Mopar 
NASCAR D1 All-Star Drifting Duel will take place featuring Kasey Kahne and other 
NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers as they compete head-to-head in drifting competition 
against the top Japanese and American drivers from the D1 Grand Prix 
Series.

Southern California members receive a 10% discount off of the purchase of up to 
four (4) adult general admission tickets for Saturday oval racing events when 
they show their AAA membership card. Auto Club members can also receive 
discounts on special offers at the concession and souvenir stands.
