McGill Motorsports to Appeal Penalties
McGill Motorsports to Appeal Penalties
McGill Motorsports owners John and Nancy McGill announced today that
they will formally appeal the penalties levied against the team for
the use of unapproved shock absorbers at Gateway International
Raceway on July 29th.
“We’re disappointed with the decision and we feel that the penalties
do not match the severity of the infraction. It is our feeling that
the penalties are not consistent with similar infractions that have
been issued this year,” explained John McGill.
“McGill Motorsports does not have a shock specialist on its staff,”
McGill continued. “We have a shock absorber lease program with a
third party who has a longstanding reputation within the industry and
supplies products to many NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch and Truck teams.
While we do not build the shocks in-house, we accept the
responsibility for our suppliers and we are not disputing that the
parts do not conform to the rules.”
The supplier of the shocks acknowledges that the parts used were
legal in both the Cup and Truck Series and was an oversight that
those parts were not within the Busch Series rulebook. “The supplier
of the shock absorbers is standing behind their products and will
participate in the appeal,” added McGill. “It is our feeling that the
shocks did not give our team a competitive advantage. It is never our
intention to put any unapproved parts on our race cars and our
reputation to participate within the rules is one of the core values
of our organization.”
