Ernie Irvan Announces List of Participating Drivers for L.A.P.S. Walk Event at Michigan International Speedway
More drivers will be announced as event nears!
BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 1 -- NASCAR legend Ernie Irvan has set the initial field of participating drivers for the second of his track walk events this summer to raise awareness for Traumatic Brain Injury -- the Leadership and Awareness to Promote Safety (L.A.P.S.) Walk, scheduled on Thursday, August 17th, 2006 from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, MI.
Drivers Scott Wimmer, Rusty Wallace, Bobby Allison and Jerry Nadeauwill join Irvan and the hundreds of supporters who have registered to walk alongside them on the MIS racetrack. More are expected to support Irvan in his efforts, and these drivers will be announced on the http://www.lapswalk.org/ website as they commit. For a minimum pledge, fans can walk the track alongside the drivers and get autographs in order to raise awareness and funds for Ernie's fight against the silent epidemic of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in America.
"I am truly appreciative of the support my colleagues have shown," said Irvan. "Many current and former drivers joined me at this summer's first event at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on July 21st, and many more are committed to helping me in my cause going forward. With one person every 23 seconds suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury in the United States, this support will go a long way in fighting this epidemic."
Created as a partnership between the Brain Injury Association of America and Irvan's non-profit organization, Race2Safety, the L.A.P.S. Walk aims to raise money for and awareness of TBI and to bring TBI to the forefront of consciousness in the minds of Americans. Irvan suffered two Traumatic Brain Injuries at MIS during his racing career, the second of which prompted his early retirement.
Registration for L.A.P.S. Walk is available online at http://www.lapswalk.org/ until 5:00 p.m. EDT Wednesday August 16th, 2006. On site registration will take place at MIS on Thursday, August 17th from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., at our L.A.P.S. Walk booth in turn four of the infield, with the walk starting at 12 p.m. There is a minimum contribution of $100 per person or $250 per family, but participants are encouraged to raise additional funds for Ernie's effort to prevent Traumatic Brain Injury.
