MERIDIAN SPEEDWAY WELCOMES SPRINTS BACK SATURDAY;
HUNT EXTENDS WESTERN LEAD WITH ALTAMONT TRIUMPH
Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. will take a 46-point lead over Mike Murgoitio into this Saturday's USAC Western Sprint Car race at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho. The track was originally scheduled to host this year's series openers in April but rains forced postponement of those events.
Hunt's lead blossomed as a result of his victory in Saturday's USAC/CASA 50-lap feature at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. He passed Murgoitio on the 17th lap and led the rest of the way in his Thomposon Toyota/Paul Oil Cpmpany Eagle/Chevy. Nick Green, Billy Wease, Murgoitio and Jeff Gardner rounded out the "top-five" at the finish.
Wease, in his Western Sprint Car debut, was Saturday's fastest qualifier.
Tim Barber and Michael Lewis were the feature winners in USAC's 2005 feature events at the 1/4-mile paved Meridian oval.
